Our body reacts to physical, mental & emotional responses. Many events that happen to you & around you put stress on your body. Stress can be in the form of Positive Stress & Negative Stress. Stress can be positive when it keeps you alert & ready to avoid danger. Whereas Stress can become negative when one faces continuous challenges without relief or relaxation.
Negative stress if continued can lead to distress. Distress can lead to headaches, stomach upset, elevated blood pressure, chest pain, sleeping problems, etc.
Stress also becomes harmful when people use alcohol, tobacco or drugs so as to relieve their stress. Unfortunately, instead of relieving the stress and returning back to a relaxed state, these substances tend to keep the body in more state of negative stress and further causing more problems.
Consider the following:
- 43% of all adults suffer from Stress
- 75% to 90% of all doctors visits are for stress-related ailments
- Stress results in headaches, high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, skin diseases, asthma, arthritis, depression & anxiety
The lifetime prevalence of emotional disorder is more than 50%. This is often due to chronic & untreated stress reactions.
